New Interview: Taniq

Taniq represent a rare breed in music: the married couple that also sings and performs together. With a style that makes full use of live music, the playful rhymes of golden age hip-hop, and the timeless depth of jazz, Taniq is quietly making a name for themselves.

Jim Bean recognizes Raashan Ahmad & the Crown City Rockers

A crusade has begun. Jim Beam®, the world’s number one selling bourbon, is thinking outside of the bottle in an entirely unconventional way by starting a movement to recognize, support and celebrate true character. By investing their multi-million dollar marketing budget into the success of selected individuals and organizations that represent the “Stuff Inside”, (www.thestuffinside.com) Jim Beam is turning conventional marketing on its head.

This approach is not focused on the generation of sales. As the number one bourbon brand in the world, with 96% brand awareness in the United States, Jim Beam doesn’t need to tell consumers who they are and what they stand for. Jim Beam prides itself on over two centuries of quality and integrity — whether it’s the bourbon inside the iconic bottle or the person or organization that stands behind it.

Jim Beam is recognizing those who embody the spirit of the “Stuff Inside”, — those who act with character, do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, help others who are less fortunate or persevere through a struggle. By supporting real-life people and organizations in non-traditional ways, Jim Beam is putting timeless values into a context that makes them contemporary and relevant to today’s consumer.

Nu-Soul artist Raashan Ahmad’s hip-hop band the Crown City Rockers was recognized for this very special campaign!

Strictly Social Photos w/ Sy Smith & Jonas

sy 1

May’s edition of Strictly Social was a hit! We were celebrating the release of Sy Smith’s latest album Conflict and the people definitely came out to show her love. Early birds were treated to a listening session of the album before the show got under way. The acoustic musings of the adorable Wendisue got everyone warmed up. Then came Europe’s Jonas, who seduced the crowd with his velvet voice. Check this dude out! Special guest jaMal came through to introduce the lady of the evening, Sy Smith. Sy commands the audience’s attention like no one else, and she sang some new hits from Conflict as well as some classics like everyone’s favorite tune “Aquarius Rising.” The vibe was beautiful all night as new friends and old mixed and mingled in support of good music. Don’t miss the next Strictly Social on Wednesday June 25.

LA: Electric Daisy Carnival 2008 - June 28

It’s that time of year again. Our favorite annual festival is coming to LA on June 28. Electric Daisy Carnival is probably the best event of its kind on the annual calendar what with all the world class DJs, grassy areas, carnival rides, and good vibes. The lineup is sick with some of the best artists representing house, drum & bass, electro and breaks!

Don’t miss this event for the House of Om Tour with Mark Farina, Collette, Heather, Andy Caldwell and Fred Everything. This is some of the best house music around! Also worth checking out are buzzworthy artists like Boys Noize, Armand Van Helden, Moby and the Glitch Mob!

Verve Remixed 4

On Verve Remixed 4music’s most respected and emulated Remix series once again breaks new ground.  More soulful in both repertoire and musical direction, the new album enlists a cutting-edge arsenal of production contributors to re-imagine a luminous array of R&B, soul, latin and jazz standards and rare gems.  This compelling rollout features funk, Afrobeat and transcultural tastemakers as well – the beat world’s most influential accompanists pairing off with some of the most memorable and against-the-grain vocal performances ever.  The most cohesive offering of the Verve Remix canon, Remixed 4 illuminates the depth and durability of the Verve legacy for generations to come. Released on Verve Records, May 27, 2008

The Do Over Photos - May 18, 2008

It must be summertime in Los Angeles because the Do Over is back! This legendary Sunday afternoon party is now in its fourth year and judging from the line outside it has gained a huge following. And with good reason too! If you were smart enough to get there early you were treated to free beer as you walked in, delicious pitchers of sangria, a beautiful multicultural crowd, and an eclectic sampling of sounds ranging from reggae to hip-hop to Latin to future soul. Host Aloe Blacc and the plenty of guests DJs kept the vibe cool all day to offset the near 100 degree temperatures. If you plan on going next week be sure to get on the RSVP list and get there before 3pm.

Thanks to Ashton Turner for the awesome photos.
